Why are some buttons blue and some buttons red?

Why the colours?

There are different colored buttons against each selection and these are to choose whether you are backing or laying the selection.

Take this for example:

There are three selections;

  1. Everton

  2. Draw

  3. Crystal Palace

Lets ignore all the other numbers on the page and concentrate on the ones in the blue and red boxes. These are the current back and lay prices available.

So for Everton, I can see that the back price is 2.7 and the lay price is 2.74.

If you want to bet that Everton will win, then you will place a back bet. The blue button shows the current price for Everton is 2.7 and the total available is 25 so if you place an order of 25 or less then it will be matched on the exchange and the bet will be placed.

If you think that Everton will NOT win, then you can lay them. The current price here is 2.74 and this means you are betting AGAINST Everton, you are stating they will not win and risking 2.74 of your stake.

So to summarise:

The odds in blue are that you are BACKING the market, ie Everton will win.

The odds in red are that you are laying the market, ie betting Everton will NOT win
